Legal, tax, clinical and finance experts for AI training and evaluation

A domain expert in AI training and evaluation is a qualified professional who writes prompts and reference answers in their field, grades model outputs against rubrics, writes those rubrics and catches the errors a practitioner would spot. AI labs, vertical-AI builders and evaluation vendors engage them. Kernavique Expertise supplies solicitors, barristers, chartered accountants, tax specialists, clinicians and front-office finance professionals, each vetted and conflict-checked, per deliverable or as a managed team.

Domain experts for AI evaluation

What the role does

  • Writes hard prompts and the reference answer a model’s attempt is graded against, such as a motion or brief drafted from a fact pattern.
  • Grades model outputs against rubrics, for example privilege calls in model-drafted discovery work, or whether a citation supports the proposition it is cited for.
  • Writes and improves the grading rubrics themselves, and rewrites model answers where they fall short.
  • Compares and ranks competing answers, recording what a top performer in the profession would actually have delivered.
  • Designs hard scenarios to test a model, such as a clinical case with an incomplete history, and writes gold-standard clinical responses.
  • Red-teams for the errors a practitioner would catch, such as an answer that states the law correctly and would still lose.

Skills and credentials

  • Solicitors (SRA)

Writing rubrics, reference answers or grades is not among the reserved legal activities that need a practising certificate. But under section 1A of the Solicitors Act 1974, a solicitor employed in connection with legal services by a law firm or another authorized provider is “deemed to be practising as a solicitor”. We check whether each solicitor holds a practising certificate, agree how they are described and keep client matters out of the work, as the SRA Code of Conduct requires whatever the role.

  • Barristers (BSB)

A practising certificate is needed to hold out as a barrister “in connection with the supply of legal services”. An unregistered barrister can do rubric and evaluation work without one, but the BSB Handbook still applies to them. Core Duty 5 applies at all times, and rule rC144 sets out disclosures before supplying legal services to an inexperienced client. We check registration status and how each barrister is described in profiles and team sheets.

  • Chartered accountants and tax specialists (ICAEW)

ICAEW calls its definition of accountancy services “wide ranging”, so UK tax rubric and grading work may fall inside it. The test is then the relationship: no practising certificate is needed where the member is not in a client or principal relationship and the organization accepts responsibility for the work. We check membership, that the engagement fits that pattern and that no one is held out as a principal.

  • Clinicians (GMC)

The GMC says Good medical practice applies to the extent it is relevant to a doctor’s practice, so non-clinical evaluation work is covered. Its confidentiality guidance says removing names, ages or addresses is unlikely to be enough to anonymize patient data, and NHS staff are expected to declare outside work. We check registration and declared interests, and keep real patient records out of task material.

  • Front-office finance and compliance

Equity research analysts, private equity associates and FP&A analysts build and review finance work, such as investment theses, forecasts and financial models from a synthetic deal pack. Compliance and financial-crime professionals bring the same judgment to regulatory questions; we found no platform listing for them that names UK eligibility, so we publish no pay. We check practice history against your domain, and conflicts with the firms on your brief.

How we fill it

  • Named solicitors, barristers, accountants, tax specialists, clinicians and finance professionals for a defined program, each qualification confirmed with the relevant register or professional body and each expert conflict-checked against your brief.

  • Small panels that grade, rank and write rubrics, each panelist judging independently first, so you can see where qualified people agree and where they do not.

  • A team with a lead from the domain, working per deliverable, with review inside the team before the work reaches you.

  • Program setup

Questions buyers ask

What does a domain expert do in AI evaluation?
They write prompts and the reference answers a model is graded against, grade model outputs against rubrics, and write the rubrics themselves. Mercor’s legal network, read on October 11, 2026, also asks lawyers to flag where a model “states the law correctly and would still lose”. Outlier lists the core tasks as “Write a Challenging Prompt” and “Create Grading Rubrics”.
What are domain experts paid for AI training work?
Platforms publish hourly pay on their own listings. Open listings we read on October 11, 2026, included “$150 per hour” for Mercor’s General Physician role in the US and “$80 - $150/hour” for micro1’s Litigation Attorney. In the UK, Alignerr’s Finance & Accounting Task Author listing gave “$60-120/hr” on the same date. These are what each platform publishes, not what Kernavique pays or charges, and every listing is linked in the table above.
Can a UK solicitor do AI training work without a practising certificate?
Usually. Writing rubrics, reference answers or grades is not among the reserved legal activities that need one, according to SRA guidance updated November 25, 2019. The exception is a solicitor employed in connection with legal services by a law firm or another authorized provider, who is “deemed to be practising as a solicitor”. This page summarizes SRA, BSB, ICAEW and GMC guidance; it is not legal advice.
How do you check an expert’s credentials and conflicts?
We confirm each qualification with the relevant register or professional body, including any practising certificate the profession issues. We review practice history against the domain you are testing, then check each expert against your brief: the clients and employers they have worked for in that domain, and any outside work an NHS clinician must declare. You see each expert by name before any material is shared. We agree the shortlist timing with you at the brief call, based on the role and the market.
Can UK professionals work on US AI programs?
It depends on the platform and the program. Handshake’s AI fellows “must be based in the U.S.” and Turing Frontier is for “Verified U.S.-Based Experts”, while Alignerr’s Finance & Accounting Task Author listing is open to professionals across the UK. Where a program needs a US qualification, we say so at the brief.
